Trying to solve the problems associated with electric cars, the year 2010 saw some auto designers come up with concept vehicles that would be able to power themselves using solar-generated electricity.

Takayanagi Co., a small Japanese automaker, has come up a retro-themed open-top, custom-made electric vehicle that hints at an unexpected luxuriousness in the same category as scooters with engine displacement of up to 50cc. The vehicle, dubbed Miluira , features about 90 percent components that have been made in Japan.

Celebrating the company’s 200th anniversary, designers over at Peugeot have revealed a new concept vehicle that merges the company’s expertise in making two and four-wheeled vehicles. Dubbed the EX1 , the zero-emission concept vehicle has been designed to run on an electric engine which includes two electric motors that are mounted on each axle with peak power of 125KW each.

Student designers from the Offenburg University have created a zero-emissions electric car that has set a new record for longest distance traveled by an electric car on a single recharge in real traffic conditions. The vehicle, dubbed Schluckspecht-E , covered a distance of 626.6km without recharging the batteries
