There was a lot of controversy over the Sochi Winter Olympics  both before and during the competition, with allegations of corruption , shoddy construction work, and facilities not being ready for the athletes. However six months after the games ended, Russian photographer Alexander Belenkiy decided to go explore the Olympic site and found it abandoned and desolate. In his own words, Belenkiy said Sochi was a “ghost town”, and a “huge wasteland that’s abandoned.” Read the rest of The Sochi Winter Village is Now a Ghost Town Just Six Months After the Olympics Permalink | Add to del.icio.us | digg Post tags: 2014 sochi olympics , 2014 winter olympics , abandoned buildings , ghost town , Sochi , sochi winter olympics , unfinished buildings , winter olympics

How Russia Turned Subtropical Sochi into a Snow-Filled Winter Olympic Resort

Photo via Shutterstock Amidst well-documented instances of contaminated tap water , broken doors , broken elevators and seemingly ill-placed surveillance , there’s another absurdity casting a shadow over this year’s Winter Olympics : Sochi is subtropical beach resort that averages 52 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. It’s hardly the most obvious location for a massive sporting event that relies on cold weather. But with reports that half the venues that have been home to the Winter Olympics over the past 100 years will be too warm to host the games by 2080, it’s worth noting: how did Russia cover Sochi in snow? Ralph Lauren’s 2014 Winter Olympic Team Outfits Scream “Made In The USA”

During the last Winter Olympics millions were astonished to learn that the uniforms worn as the U.S. Olympic Team entered the carnival-like Opening Ceremonies had not actually been made in the United States. The outfits, while designed by Ralph Lauren, had been made in China , something that seemed ludicrous during an event that oozes with patriotism. Thanks to public backlash, Ralph Lauren committed to making sure that the 2014 team uniforms were fully made in the USA, and at long last, we’ve finally gotten a look at them. The bold, some might say garish, design, splattered with stars, stripes, and all the rest, leave no doubt that they were made on domestic soil. See more pictures by following the link below. In 2012, the world was shocked to learn that the uniforms worn by the Winter Olympic team were actually made in China . It really shouldn’t have been a surprise, since a large percentage of all clothes worn by Americans are created in other countries, often by workers in dangerous factories who make next to nothing. The incident was a PR disaster for Ralph Lauren , who designed the uniforms, and a missed opportunity for the American economy. The controversy had an immediate effect on the fashion company, which announced that for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, all of Team USA’s uniforms will be made by domestic craftspeople.
