The Goodearth houseboat takes paradise-seeking tourists through the stunning backwater landscape of lagoons, canals, and rivers in Kerala , Southern India. In a network of waterways bustling with houseboats of all kinds, the Goodearth has tried to do something different from the standard luxury services by appealing to eco-tourism . It has built a more cooperative tour service created by residents from four villages south of  Kochi that tries to lessen its eco-footprint. The houseboat takes visitors on trips along a route less travelled through beautiful and calming scenery, all the while making sure not to add pollution and trash to the surrounding waters. Architect Manthey Kula Explores Seaweed as Natural Insulation For Sustainable Building

Architect  Manthey Kula is exploring seaweed as an innovative way to create natural thermal insulation. One of five Challenger projects showcased during 2011′s Norwegian Architecture Festival , Kula’s work explores the idea that these materials are natural renewable resources that could be turned into  sustainable building materials while at the same time encouraging local industries which grow, harvest and dry seaweed and kelp for production. Supported by  SINTEF , Kula’s investigation is ongoing and will be testing the material properties and methods of drying seaweed sustainably. + Manthey Kula Images by C. Bill Gates Calls on Global Community to Stabilize the World’s Food Supply

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supports work in education and global development to a degree that few other foundations can claim – and now it’s even taking on the problem of global agriculture production . In a speech on Thursday in Rome, Gates called on world leaders to join him in attempting to create a stable global food supply. Though specifics weren’t mentioned, he did say he thought a plan could be in place by the end of the year to get all nations on Earth to compete in a race to create an agricultural system robust enough to solve the global food supply crisis.
