Video: Unarmed Media Jello, LEGO and booze are three things that we hold near and dear to our hearts, so when we saw a chance to combine them and create the trifecta known as the vegetarian LEGO “jello” shot, we knew we had to seize it. As you might know, jello is actually not vegetarian because it’s made from gelatin, which contains the skin, bones, and connective tissue of cows and other animals. So we decided to use agar agar –a vegan gelling agent derived from seaweed–for our recipe. That means you can guiltlessly serve these fun edible LEGO minifigs to your vegetarian friends, and you can also leave the liquor out if any of your guests are children (or teetotalers). The recipe is easy – read on for the step-by-step tutorial! Read the rest of How to make edible LEGO jello shot minifigs for your next summer soiree

Comments Off on GREEN BUILDING 101: How to Choose the Best Spot for Your Dream Green Home

We’ve already touched upon ways to keep cool (and warm!) via insulation and home orientation , but what about your home’s location itself? Where would you like to live? Naturally, aspects such as water conservation, sustainable building materials and how to save energy are great, but let’s take a step back and consider steps needed for making an environmentally conscious choice on where to live. We’ll share a few tips below on “Location and Linkages”; a term defined by LEED as a method of sustainable site selection and development. Hopefully these guidelines can help to reduce energy consumed by Americans in pursuit of cheap land and more closet space across the (seemingly) infinite supply of pasture and native habitats. The US Green Building Council recently released a new infographic that shows how the LEED rating system has been a key driver of momentum across many facets of the building industry. The infographic covers the breadth of LEED’s supporters (12,000 USGBC member companies, 77 chapters, 185,000 LEED Accredited Professionals and Green Associates); LEED’s proven performance in reducing operating costs, helping drive the certification of 1.7 million square feet per day; as well as the rigorous, consensus-based approach to its technical development. Check out the full infographic after the break! The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. Want to see your story on Inhabitat ? Send us a tip by following this link .
