What if you could assemble your house like Legos using free modeling software and a 3D printer? That’s the idea behind Eric Schimelpfening ‘s WikiHouse – a home designed entirely in SketchUp that can be downloaded by anyone, customized to fit the user’s needs and sent to the 3D printer. The components are then snapped together using less than 100 screws to make rooms that can be rearranged as easily as you would rearrange furniture. Foster + Partners just unveiled their latest achievement: the SSE Hydro . It’s not a dam or a submarine – It’s Scotland’s largest purpose-built public event arena, and it will see some of the world’s biggest musicians and acts in the coming years. Built on the site of the former Queen’s Dock, SSE Hydro is the only UK venue of its scale built specifically for concerts. It also features lightweight, translucent wall panels, and natural ventilation system to reduce its energy demand. “Its design strengthens connections to the River Clyde and will be central to the Queen’s Dock redevelopment – its series of new public spaces will bring the riverfront to life and open it up for all to enjoy,” say Foster + Partners . LEGO bricks were some of our favorite toys as children – hidden in those brightly-colored blocks was the potential to build practically anything, so long as that something involved a lot of right angles. It’s hard to make slopes and curves, so most LEGO creations come out looking a lot like a box. The square nature of LEGO doesn’t seem to have been a stumbling block for Japanese builder Talapz . He recently became an internet sensation (for a second time) by building a miniature LEGO replica of T?dai-ji, a Buddhist temple complex located in the city of Nara, Japan. But for Talapz, it’s not enough that the mini temple looks remarkably like the real thing – through some type of sorcery we may never understand, he made the LEGO building emerge, pop-up style from a giant book that’s also built of LEGO. Watch the video after the jump to view this mind-blowing feat! Read the rest of Mind-Blowing LEGO Temple Folds Together Like a Pop-Up Book!
