With many politicians denying the reality of climate change, it would seem that national discourse is stuck in the past. However, even policymakers and scientists in the 1960s recognized the serious threat posed by climate change. November 5th 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Restoring the Quality of our Environment,  a report published by President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s science advisory committee. In the report, top scientists warned President Johnson of the potentially dire consequences of climate change and global pollution. The Chinese government has issued a new judicial interpretation that will allow courts to issue harsher punishments for environmental crimes, according to the Xinhua News Agency . And for the most serious offenses, the death penalty may be handed down. The new interpretation comes after a series of protests by the Chinese populace over pollution of air and water , chemical factories, and other development projects that have imperiled public health. Image via YouTube video I attended the first ever San Francisco Green Film Festival this weekend and mixed in among the serious documentaries about everything from precious metal mining to bird conservation were a few choice shorts that thankfully use a little comedy and music to disseminate disturbing information. Top among my favorites was this music video parody on the impact of plastics.
