Actor Leonardo DiCaprio ‘s eco-conscious actions aren’t new to us. Over the years, he’s spent millions (and millions and millions) on conservation efforts, and the numbers keep climbing. This week, DiCaprio announced his foundation will earmark $15 million in the form of grants for environmental organizations working on conservation projects around the world. This is part of a multiyear effort DiCaprio has undertaken to make a positive impact on the environment, but the $15 million in question will be allotted this year alone. But this proposal from three U.C.L.A. scientists is one of the weirdest. They believe that  injecting large amounts of sulfate aerosols in to the atmosphere  – in other words, creating a fake volcano – might be the key to staving off the effects of global warming.
