Born in the South of France, artist and artisan Guy Bucchi spent many years as a psychiatric nurse before moving to New Zealand to begin a new life. Using recycled materials such as wood , rope, copper or glass, he designs and creates unique pieces of furniture that as as comfortable as they are beautiful to admire. His chairs are either one-off pieces or limited series, and he works exclusively with handmade tools to produce everything he makes. These chairs are made of recycled metal and recycled native New Zealand swamp kauri wood, the latter of which is thousands of years old and used primarily in the chairs ‘ seats. A lamp made from a washing machine drum , a stool made from scrap wood; designer Willem Heeffer spots the design potential in everyday waste objects and sets out to give them a stylish new purpose. Heeffer recently completed a beautiful new office for Mandala , a Helsinki-based travel agent and tour operator that offers a wide range of active holidays and adventure tours around the world. A long plywood table in front of the window is lit by upcycled drum lamps that are powder coated in the travel agency’s signature colors.
