Every year the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy publishes a report revealing the most energy efficient countries in the world. The council looks at the 16 biggest economies and ranks them in terms of transportation, industry, building and national efforts to cut costs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the US ranks close to the bottom at number 13, while super efficient Germany took the stop slot. Irish energy supplier Jones Oil created an infographic with tons of interesting information about the report – including the reason why China managed to grab the fourth slot in the rankings. The Rosetta spacecraft is currently orbiting and exploring comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko—a large mass of rock and ice that it landed the Philae probe on in November —and its newest discovery might give us startling insight about the origin of water on our own planet. It has been discovered that comet’s water contains three times the amount of deuterium than water here on Earth, which throws a wrench into theories that t his planet’s oceans and rivers  may have originated from comets slamming into it during its formation. The Institute for Patient-Centered Design held a competition for its Family Centered Cancer Care facility, and RS&H Inc. ‘s design has been chosen as one of the top three submissions. Children who are in inpatient care are often scared and lonely, so the space was designed to nurture entire families while the kids are in treatment . There are nooks to explore, a giant marker board wall that can be colored from top to bottom, and a projection screen on which movies can be shown. The idea of “nooks” was a prevalent one, as the team wanted to create little pockets of safe space to support both the children and their families, while distracting the children from discomfort associated with their medical treatments. + Institute for Patient-Centered Design The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader.
