Unveiled after five years in the making, the hanging Plumen 003 light bulb combines two lights into one: a focused, direct light below and a flattering, diffused sidelight. HULGER, Claire Norcross, and Marie-Laure Giroux designed the bulb, drawing inspiration from Danish designer Poul Henningsen’s PH lamp, created in 1925. Like the PH lamp, which combined elements of kerosene oil lamps and electrical bulbs, Plumen 003 seeks to combine the warmth of an incandescent bulb with the energy efficiency of LEDs. Related: Plumen Unveils Gorgeous Glowing Oak Installation at the London Design Festival “ Sustainable design often lacks sex appeal – LED bulbs being no exception,” said Plumen creative director Nicolas Roope. “We decided that to attract customers to this new technology we needed to create an efficient light bulb that was also inspiring and beautiful in its own right.” In addition to its beautiful design, the luxurious Plumen 003 is engineered to reduce glare and heat. The Plumen 003 light bulb is estimated to last for 10,000 hours and is available for preorder with delivery in November. + Plumen Via Dezeen Images via Plumen

According to Lucirmás, the majority of recycled glass ends up in pavement aggregate rather than in the production or new glass. In hopes of highlighting the importance and beauty of reuse, the design studio creates unique handmade pieces using a variety of techniques such as cutting with a wet diamond blade circular saw and thermal tempering. Waste minimization is a major focus of Lucirmás, which takes an eco-friendly approach to all aspects of the product’s lifecycle from design concept to end-use. Related: Stallo: Practical and Elegant Cups Upcycled from Glass Bottles Lucirmás recently launched a limited edition version of its LaFlor Lamp and Dama Lamp. The LaFlor Lamp, designed by Nutcreatives, combines a dark turquoise glass wine bottle with a handmade copper lampshade to create an attractive hanging lamp . The Dama Lamp Diamond uses a clear Damajuana bottle with a PEFC handmade beech timber base, on which a low-energy Plumen 001 lightbulb sits. Both products are completely recyclable and, since no glue was used, can be easily disassembled as needed. + Lucirmás Images via Lucirmás

Lighting giant Hulger recently returned to London’s Design Museum Tank with a gorgeous new light sculpture comprising 96 Plumen 002 light bulbs . The energy efficient designer bulbs are hung from copper Drop Cap pendants and arranged in a dynamic wave-like form that evokes the bulb’s curvaceous shape. The light sculpture is viewable from all angles through the tank’s four glazed openings, which along with the mirror placed on the floor, reflect the light and enhance the depth and brightness of the piece.
