Their imaginations will be running wild as they pop those little blocks together, building all kinds of structures and making the smiling characters take part in any number of cool adventures. In this particular LEGO set, huskies and polar bears frolic about on ice floes while folks with families fish in the water nearby. Now, picture those same kids pouring crude oil all over the scene for accuracy’s sake. Sounds horrific, doesn’t it? Well, it may not be all that far-fetched: LEGO’s partnership with Shell has toy sets and bricks branded with the oil company’s logo in one of the most inappropriate partnerships imaginable. During Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s ill-fated Terra Nova expedition to the South Pole in 1910, his team took the time to study penguins – however the sexual activities of the penguins so shocked Scott and his team, that they were removed from official accounts. It is only now, a century later, that they have been made public. Photos by Jaymi Heimbuch The South African penguin is a much less well known species than the penguins adapted to cold climates like those of March of the Penguins status, the Emperor penguins. But for a rather unfortunate reasons, they’re hopefully about to get much more well known.

Photo: Inhabitat Even though California wasn’t able to pass its statewide tax on plastic bags, plenty of its municipalities have gone ahead and imposed bans or taxes anyways. They’re outlawed in cities like San Francisco and Fairfax, and many other cities — Los Angeles, San Jose, etc — are already forging their own bans
