After viewing episodes of the highly-anticipated HBO show Game of Thrones , fans have been seeking out and adopting Husky pups in droves, according to a report by the San Francisco Gate . Unfortunately, most are ill-equipped to care for the high-spirited dogs, which are being abandoned at a phenomenal rate. Reportedly, a tell-tale sign of Huskies being adopted by fans of the show is that they are oftentimes named after characters. Additionally, a British animal charity reported a 700 percent increase in abandoned Huskies by 2014, while two Bay area husky rescue facilities — Northern California Sled Dog Rescue and Bay Area Siberian Husky Club — reported similar spikes in the dogs’ abandonment. President of NorSled Angelique Miller said, “These people, they watch these shows and think how cool these dogs are. People can’t even tell the difference between a husky and a wolf because they’re always asking us at adoption fairs if these dogs are wolves — and it’s clearly a husky. They’re just following the trend of what they think is cute.” Related: Winter is Coming: 6 Game of Thrones-Inspired Vegetarian Recipes to Brighten Cold Days It is thought that fans are abandoning the dogs more than any other breed because Huskies’ coats require weekly maintenance, they can’t be left alone with small animals, and they require regular exercise . As Salon reports, this isn’t the first time popular culture has had a negative impact on animals. After “Finding Nemo” was released, for example, sales of clown fish skyrocketed . At the same time, reports sprang up of children flushing the fish down the toilet so they could be freed to the ocean (a plan promoted in the movie). And, after “Harry Potter” became a success, owls — like the Huskies — were adopted in a frenzy and then abandoned at an astonishing pace. The only way to reverse this tragic trend is for consumers to be informed about various animals’ needs. In regard to the Husky-purchasing trend,  Game of Thrones  fans need to know they are very dissimilar from the wolves featured on the show – and they require a lot of care. Prolific architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson crafted the Vance Tsing Tao Pearl Hill Visitor Center in Qingdao, China with a gorgeous rolling green roof . Located at the base of the Zhushan National Forest Park, the wooden building ‘s undulating canopy mimics the mountain range in the backdrop. At 223,000 square feet, the visitor center is certainly massive, however it was carefully designed to blend into its natural surroundings thanks to its subtle stature and verdant green roof. Additionally, the building is strategically oriented so that visitors can enjoy amazing views of the mountain range on one side and expansive sea views on the other end. Floor-to-ceiling glazed walls provide these views while illuminating the building with natural light . Related: Manetti Shrem Museum’s 50,000-square-foot canopy was inspired by the agrarian landscape The designers choose to use wood as the building’s principle material to create a strong connection to nature. The unique wooden truss roof structure uses large logs to support a layer of Canadian Class J SPF wood. At the center of the undulating roof is an abundance of lush greenery, further integrating the building into its environment. The green roof was strategically designed to insulate the interior and reduce the building’s overall carbon footprint. + Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Via Archdaily Photography by He Lian

Leonardo DiCaprio may have found his next project to help the planet: a movie starring 90’s cartoon environmental superhero Captain Planet . Captain Planet and the Planeteers ended in late 1992, but it seems DiCaprio thinks the themes from the old TV show are relevant today. There’s a twist: sources told The Hollywood Reporter we might see Captain Planet in a new light, as a ” washed-up has-been .” DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way Productions and Paramount are reportedly attempting to obtain the rights for the TV series. DiCaprio would be a producer on the film – no word yet on whether or not he would play one of the characters. Jono Matt and Glenn Powell’s names have been floated to pen the screenplay. Related: Leonardo DiCaprio could be headed to Mars with SpaceX The original Captain Planet TV series followed the adventures of five children possessing magic rings that, when used together, could summon the environmental superhero. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter a DiCaprio Captain Planet film would be set after the timeline of the TV series. Instead of the hero taking “pollution down to zero,” Captain Planet could be portrayed as a ” washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him .” Actor David Coburn, who voiced Captain Planet, has said he’d love to be involved with a Captain Planet movie. He told The Hollywood Reporter , “There’s nobody better to play Captain Planet than Leo. Well there’s me, then there’s Leo. But if it can’t be me, if Captain Planet can’t be a 51-year-old Jew, then Leo’s a good second choice.” Even though the TV show ended decades ago, Captain Planet is still making his mark through the Captain Planet Foundation , an active organization that works to inspire kids to become ” agents of environmental change ” through clubs, programs, and events. A child’s propensity for imaginative play is a precious gift…one that typically wanes the closer we get to adulthood. It’s fair to say that won’t be the case in the of the Mackie family. When Lilly and Leon Mackie made the move from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia, they were left in a sea of cardboard moving boxes. Rather than toss or recycle the boxes, their imaginative minds saw them as the perfect way to make a grandiose cardboard photo project that shows their love for theater as well as their baby boy, Orson. The film-loving parents launched Cardboard Box Office, a series of adorable photographs in which the trio acts out scenes from their favorite movies using the leftover cardboard to set the scene. Kuldeep Sharma: Solight- solar powered garden Solight- solar powered garden As the whole world is talking about the environment conservation, the role of solar energy has got its dominant place. Most of the things operated by electricity that we are using presently will be available in new avatars powered by solar energy. Presently, there are lots of gadgets and appliances that work on solar energy like solar water heaters, solar cars, solar device chargers, street lights powered by solar energy, etc. These all looks quite normal things with the use of solar energy but there are some other weird and wacky things that make use of solar energy. Here is a list of such things that are totally unexpected with the use of solar energy and left you surprised whether solar energy can be used in such form. Let’s see these 7 most weirdest projects that make use of solar energy. 1. Solar movie theater Solar Movie theatre Sol cinema that has a capacity for 8 people to sit First in this list is a small solar powered movie theater named as SOL CINEMA. You might have seen a theater that has large capacity for people to sit and enjoy the movie with great surround sound experience. But being a movable mini cinema, SOL CINEMA provides seating capacity of 8 people. This whole cinema is powered by solar energy. It contains solar panels that provide energy to run the cinema and giving viewers a home theater like experience. 2. Taco Stand Solar Taco stand A solar powered Taco stand used by vendors in Mexico When we talk about Tacos it reminds us of the delicious taste of it. You must have seen street vendors using fossil fuel powered Taco grills to keep Tacos warm. But in Mexico, now a days the food vendors are using solar powered Taco grills that use solar energy to prepare their Tacos. The initial investment on solar powered Taco grill is only $500 but after this it has long term savings also. Being a solar powered grill, it saves the cost of using fossil fuel like cooking gas hence giving much more profit to the vendors. 3. Solar planes Solar Powered Plane Solar impulse- a sun powered plane You might be familiar with solar powered concept vehicles like cars, bikes and boats but have you ever heard about a solar powered air plane. Solar Impulse, the solar powered airplane makes use of solar energy to take a flight high in the sky. It took around seven precious years for the engineers of the plane to make it operational. The plane has a wing span of 210 feet on which 12000 solar cells are placed to power the plane. The plane took its first flight from Switzerland and traveled at an altitude of 4000 feet above the ground. The most amazing thing about this airplane is that during its flight the pilot was able to keep it in the air for around 24 hours even after the sunset with the help of the stored energy. 4. Beehives Solar powered Beehives Solar powered Beehives All of us like honey for its great sweet taste. Honey comes from most of the honey farms where honey bees are kept in artificial beehives. So this solar project is all about the solar powered cooler that keeps the beehive cool so that the production of honey in the colony of bees should be high. This cooler is totally powered by solar energy and allows the bees to live happily in the beehive. 5. Plant lights Solight- solar powered garden Solight- solar powered garden The next thing in this category of weird solar projects is ‘Solight concept plant lightning system’. If you are interested in planting trees inside your house, where there is no sunlight you can rely on this Solight concept plant lightning system. This device contains LED bulbs that provide light to the plants beneath it using the energy gathered from the sunlight. Hence, Solight being a weird project can help you a lot in in-house gardening. 6. Vending machines Solar Powered Vending Machine Solar Powered Vending Machine by Fuji Electronics Japan based electronic goods company Fuji electronics has debuted its solar powered vending machine that works totally on solar power. The vending machine is moss covered and keeps all items cool due to improved insulation of moss. It looks like an ordinary vending machine and helps reduce the consumption of electricity for a greener tomorrow. The concept is totally green as the number of vending machines in the world is very large and if the company is able to replace all vending machines with these solar powered machines than it can help us save most of the electric energy. 7. Farmers market Solar powered farmers market Solar powered farmers market You might have visited vegetable markets that are totally dependent on electricity or some other non renewable sources of energy. But, Albuquerque Downtown Growers Market has made some changes when compared to other farmers markets. It uses solar energy for every thing like keeping fresh the vegetables, music inside the shop and even the ATM machines that are placed there are totally powered by solar energy. Hence, we can say that they are making a big step towards green revolution. This article is sponsored by Mobile Phone Products From Made-in-China.com .
