Babita Sajnani: Nanum Love Pot Humidifier A lowdown on green, solar-powered coolers like the Nanum Love Pot. The latest advancements in solar energy technology have promised a future where solar panels can be attached on any surface, which might be on any size and shape. These technologies, which includes flexible solar panels and thin film solar cells, have been used by designers in creating next-gen products that harness clean energy from the sun for all their power needs. Here are ten such innovative coolers that run on renewable solar energy. 1. Solar Powered Coolers by Traveler’s Choice The Sustainable Zone in Traveler’s choice has a wide range of solar powered coolers. These coolers have a 5W battery that is capable of charging the battery of a phone to full capacity within 2- 3 hours. The coolers have a 3.2 watt capacity when placed in partial sunlight. Therefore, direct sunlight can be used to charge dead batteries, apart from keeping eatables chilled. Sold at $190 these solar powered coolers are a must-have for the frequent traveler. 2. Innovative solar-powered fridge made by British student helps poor Africans A brilliant and innovative solar-powered fridge has been made out of household materials by Emily Cummins, a British student, making it a perfect product for underdeveloped countries. This portable eco-friendly fridge has the capability of chilling perishable items such as milk and non-vegetarian food at a temperature of 6 degree Celcius for days. The designer is keen on making a sophisticated version that would help keep medical supplies sterilized in hot countries. She also hopes to get a patent. The fridge works by using the simple process of evaporation for keeping the perishable products in a cool state without any power. The fridge is comprised of two cylinders – one on the inside which is metallic and one on the outside that is made from plastic or wood. The simplicity in the manufacturing of the fridge without using electricity would be a boon for poor countries in Africa. Namibia has been using this fridge and refers to her as the ‘Fridge Lady’. 3. Solar powered cooler that keeps things both hot and cool Solar-Cool Technologies has come out with a solar powered cooler that not only saves on energy, money and time. It is environment-friendly and is a multipurpose tool as well. This solar powered cooler is capable for charging your phones and laptops when you are outdoors and also can keep things hot or cool by 30 degrees above or below the ambient temperature. This amazing cooler saves our environment from 5000 pounds of CO2 emissions in a single year. The cost of this product is $250 but it is worth every cent. 4 . Love Pot Humidifiers The Nanum Love Pot is a colorful and lively looking humidifier that serves another purpose apart from cleaning the air. It spreads a gentle fragrance across the room. The technology that is used in the Love Pot does not use electricity. The proceedings from the sales of these pots by Sangmin Bae go to the ‘Nanum Project’ for providing scholarships to needy children. 5. Ultra energy efficient DC refrigeration by SolarHome You can save on energy costs by using the highly efficient solar refrigerators and freezers that are powered by a solar battery. As refrigerators require little electricity the photovoltaic arrangement is quite small. These frost-free refrigerators require less maintenance and are easy to clean. The fridge can operate on one 80W solar module in most climate ranges. 6 . Solar powered swamp coolers It is better to install a solar-powered swamp cooler as opposed to the conventional coolers and save on money and reduce your carbon footprint too. These coolers will keep you cool despite power outages and you can also get a cash rebate, as is the case in most states in the US, as well as a 30 percent Federal Tax credit. The harsh summers set the temperatures soaring as well as your electricity bills, but with the solar powered swamp coolers can use freely-available solar energy to cool your homes. 7. SunDanzer’s latest solar powered freezers and refrigerators SunDanzer has come up with a new range of highly efficient solar powered freezers and refrigerators that make keeping things chilled quick and easy. The refrigerators and freezers have great insulation in order to make cooling effective as it operates at either 12 or 24 volts only. These coolers are also portable and you can easily carry them for camping or other outdoor excursions. 8. Solar powered desert cooler fan – air conditioner The solar-powered desert cooler fan uses only 18 watts of power and can effectively cool your house. This is a perfect cooling device for areas that experience hot climate and prolonged summers as you would not have to worry about massive electricity bills. 9. Solar air conditioner A solar air conditioner is also called the solar evaporative cooler, due to the technology that it uses. It saves you from hot summers and high billing amounts when compared to a regular air conditioner. It has been concluded from a research in the US that one-sixth of the electricity used is for air conditioning alone. This is a great hazard for the environment in terms of the high amounts of CO2 released. However, this solar powered air conditioner is a blessing as freely-available solar energy powers the air conditioner. 10. SolCool solar powered air conditioner The solar powered air conditioner by SolCool is very effective as the hottest days of summer also witness the maximum amount of sunlight, which is perfect for solar powered devices. The Millenia air conditioner by SolCool makes use of the sun’s energy for operating a 2 ton AC by using a solar power/ dual battery technology that uses 85 per cent less energy than the regular air conditioners. The most attractive feature of the Millenia is that it works on a direct current that utilizes solar energy in a very efficient manner .
