For those who don’t love the idea of eating burgers made from lab-grown meat, a Dutch company has produced a vegetarian version of the “Frankenburger.” Vegetarian Butcher transforms vegetables and plants into “meat” to make hamburgers with an environmental footprint that is seven times lower than of a real hamburger, according to the company’s founder Jaap Korteweg. The European Commission is trying once again to ban pesticides that are widely believed to be harmful to bees, The BBC reports . Last month the commission presented a proposal to ban neonicotinoid pesticides such as lothianidin, imidacloprid and thiametoxam following alarming declines of bee populations across the globe. But the move failed to garner a meaningful majority among European states, with 13 countries in favor, nine against and five abstentions, so the proposal is now being addressed by an appeals committee that votes today. It’s not always easy to know just which materials are best to use but  2:PM Architectures has bypassed that frustration by designing a housing complex made entirely out of reclaimed and recycled materials . While FSC-certified timber may be considered one viable alternative, 2:PM believes that overusing even the friendliest construction material can exact an environmental price. So they turned instead to locally-sourced steel as the best choice for an 11 unit apartment building planned for Turquant in France.
