Designer Kate Brown designed Etazin , a series of sculptural and interactive outdoor lounge chairs that turn a full 360 degrees to take advantage of surrounding views. Inspired by the Asian moon gate garden elements, the modern lounge chairs are made of steel and are approximately eight-and-a-half feet tall and wide. The striking art piece come in either a square or circle version, and is coated with a high-grade polyurethane to protect against rusting. + Etazin The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. Comments Off on Denmark sets a new world record in for wind power generation in 2014

Denmark now gets 39 percent of its electricity needs from wind power , setting a world record and telling the globe that no matter what the naysayers think, they intend to plow forward . In an article for The Local Denmark , Denmark Climate Minister Rasmus Helveg Petersen says, “We will definitely hit our 2020 goals. We have set a one-of-a-kind world record. And it shows that we can reach our ultimate goal, namely to stop global warming.” The Danish government has set a goal of having half of all their electricity provided by the wind in 2020 and banning the use of coal entirely in 10 years. Flat-pack furniture  has taken the furniture market by storm, but not everyone’s a fan of fumbling around with tiny hex keys to assemble their furnishings. That’s why OpenDesk and Baltimore-based Object Guerrilla have developed the Zip Tie Lounge Chair, a new flat-pack offering that can be assembled with 44 zip ties in a matter of minutes. The simple wooden frame requires just 16 square feet of plywood and can be cut on a CNC router in less than an hour. OpenDesk’s platform allows users to download the plans for free, or use the OpenDesk network to contract a local fabricator to produce the chair in kit form. The chair takes advantage of the flexibility inherent in zip tie joinery to create an articulated hammock of seating panels that conforms to the body. Materially efficient, it leverages the power of the web to design globally and distribute locally, slashing the carbon footprint. + Object Guerrilla The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader.
