Why do some hurricanes intensify very rapidly while others do not? This is the big scientific question that NASA scientists are grappling with by using former military surveillance drones. In order to better understand tropical storms and ultimately improve forecast models, scientists are using unmanned Global Hawk aircrafts for this research mission with a plan to study Tropical Storm Gabrielle that has re-formed in the Atlantic.
