Trump claims he received no calls about the Keystone and Dakota pipelines

Comments Off on Trump claims he received no calls about the Keystone and Dakota pipelines

In the land of alternative facts, up is down, left is right, and no one cares at all about the Keystone and Dakota Access Pipelines. At least, that’s what Trump would have you believe. POTUS told reporters that after giving the projects the green light , he didn’t get a single complaint phone call. “I don’t even think it was controversial,” he added. “I haven’t had one call from anybody,” Trump said. ““You know, usually, if I do something it’s like bedlam, right?” And maybe he’s right, maybe he hasn’t had any calls, since the comment line at the White House was shut down on January 23. Related: Here’s every bank funding the Dakota Access Pipeline, and how to switch Trump wasn’t done with mangling the facts just yet, though. He also claimed that “Nobody showed up to fight” against the pipelines initially. Protestors only showed up after the companies spent a “tremendous” amount of “hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars,” and then protestors showed up. Dollars that not coincidentally came out of Trump’s own pockets . https://twitter.com/ABC/status/829180971962372097?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Not to worry, though. These completely uncontroversial pipelines are going to be real job creators according to Trump. Keystone will create “32,000  jobs almost immediately,” jobs that TransCanada CEO Russ Girling say will be “ongoing, enduring.” Fact checkers expect the pipeline will actually create about 3,900 two-year jobs, with just around 50 people being employed long-term . Comments Off on Keystone XL battle should be about food security and climate change, not economics

As we await President Obama’s veto of the Keystone XL  pipeline, expected later today, news outlets far and wide are recapping the evolution of the debate. Unfortunately, the headlines often focus on the economy and only mention some vague connection to the environment. In reality, the Keystone XL battle isn’t just about money. It is about reducing fossil fuel emissions and protecting the land necessary for our food and water supplies. Comments Off on Obama’s veto on Keystone pipeline will likely hold

Good news for the environment:  President Obama’s veto on the Keystone XL pipeline bill will likely stand, with the Senate being about four votes shy of being able to override his decision. Senator John Hoeven said on Fox News Sunday that the bill he sponsored , allowing the project to “move forward out of the hands of the State Department,” will not continue. Some lucky Israeli residents of the Negev Desert’s Wadi Zim region got to see something truly incredible as a dramatic video posted to YouTube captured the rebirth of the River Zin. Within seconds, the dry riverbed, also known as nahal in Hebrew and wadi in Arabic, is overwhelmed by gushing water as the dozens of spectators and one excited dog watch in awe. Comments Off on President Obama to veto the Keystone XL bill

Senate Republicans have made it clear that their first order of business as the majority party in the 114th Congress will be to ram through a bill approving the controversial Keystone XL pipeline;  a move that would please the American Petroleum Institute and Canadian government, but would infuriate environmentalists as well as farmers and ranchers along the proposed route in Nebraska. President Obama’s veto pen is the only thing stopping the Republicans (and some Democrats) on Capitol Hill – and according to White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, he intends to use it. Comments Off on Senate Votes to Stop Keystone Pipeline – For Now

The Keystone Pipeline is dead – for now. The US Senate voted Tuesday to block a measure that would have allowed construction on the controversial pipeline. The measure fell short by one solitary vote, which means that though the project is on the shelf for now, it could very well be showing up in congress again this January, when Republicans take control of the Senate .
