Great news Game of Thrones fans—White Walkers and dragons have arrived in the one of the coolest hotels to open this winter season: The Games of Thrones-themed Lapland Hotels SnowVillage. Created in collaboration with HBO Nordic, this temporary themed hotel offers stunningly sculpted rooms made almost entirely of snow and ice . Those hoping for a visit to the Seven Kingdoms will need to hurry—the hotel will only be around until April 8, 2018. The Games of Throne-themed hotel is located in Finland’s Kittilä, about 90 minutes away from Helsinki. The hotel comprises 24 rooms, 10 of which are available to overnight guests. International ice artists were invited to bring the hotel to life and the undeniable highlight is the massive carving of a demonic White Walker looming over a bed. There’s also an icy Iron Throne, a dragon guardian at the ice bar, and a dragon-shaped ice slide. Guests who want warmer accommodation can stay in separate log cabins on site. There’s also a cinema, chapel, arctic bar, and a restaurant at the SnowVillage. Room bookings at the ice hotel start at $200 and entry to the SnowVillage is $18. + Lapland Hotels SnowVillage Via CNN Travel Images via Lapland Hotels SnowVillage

ICEHOTEL is back and it’s as magical as ever. Located 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi, this ephemeral hotel of ice and snow is rebuilt every winter for a few spectacular months and its unique luxury suites sculpted by select artists from around the world. From sleeping in a giant Fabergé Egg to the arms of King Kong, the experiences and incredible artistic skill of these individually themed rooms are guaranteed to send a chill up your spine. Now in its 28th year, the world-famous ICEHOTEL is also the world’s first ice hotel and lasts from December to April. Every year, ice and snow is harvested from the nearby Torne River—the largest of Sweden’s four national rivers—and then returned back to the earth when the hotel melts. Around 40 artists from around the world are invited every year to bring the unique art exhibition to life using a combination of snow, ice, and light. Related: Sweden’s new ICEHOTEL 365 uses solar cooling to stay open all year-round This year’s ICEHOTEL offers a total of 35 unique art- and deluxe suites in addition to an ice bar, ice ceremony hall, and ice gallery. Guests can choose from sleeping in a frozen jungle of Monstera-plants, in the company of giant snails, or even atop a “fluffy” white cloud. Each cold room is held at a temperature of -5 to -8 degrees Celsius (17.6 to 23 degrees Fahrenheit) and guests sleep on a Carpe Diem bed covered with reindeer hides and a thermal sleeping bag. Changing rooms and bathrooms are located in a separate heated facility. Prices for an Ice Room start at $661 USD. + ICEHOTEL Images Asaf Kliger © ICEHOTEL

The sparkling, chilly beauty of northern Sweden’s ICEHOTEL brings in thousands of visitors each year, only to melt away each spring. That will all change with a new addition projected to open this December, which will stay open into the sunny summer months thanks to a rooftop solar panel addition. Guests will be able to enjoy both the fire of the midnight sun and their icy accommodations at the same time. The ICEHOTEL has been operational for 26 years, with the same routine of preparing the destination each winter and shutting down each spring. The new hotel wing will be open 365 days a year in response to customer demand for a cool place to stay after a late night hike or dogsled adventure in the sun. Related: ICEHOTEL unveils breathtaking rooms carved from solid ice During the summer months, the addition will generate power from the sun day and night via photovoltaic rooftop panels provided by partner Solkompaniet. When the seasonal sun sets, the collection of 20 suites, ice bar, and gallery will join the rest of the ICEHOTEL, which is three times its size, for the winter rush. “We’ve created many temporary ice experiences in the past, and we’ve seen an increasing interest for visiting ICEHOTEL not just in winter,” stated founder Yngve Bergqvist. “Every summer we have international visitors who arrive in Jukkasjärvi and ask us where they can see ICEHOTEL – I look forward to being able to point it out to them!” + ICEHOTEL Via Design Curial Images via Asaf Kliger

As if having the tallest and most expensive skyscraper in the world wasn’t enough, Dubai has shown its decadence once again by building an ice lounge right in the middle of the desert. The Chillout Café looks as if it were lifted right out of Sweden or Quebec , with couches, chandeliers, and even glasses made from ice. The carved-ice café hits about 21 degrees Fahrenheit, and it offers designer winter gear for its patrons to keep warm while the city blazes at 95° F outside.
