There’s hardly any object more recognizable than the humble HB pencil, and now a London-based studio has rewritten its function with this wonderful lamp. Created by husband and wife team Michael & George , who take a ‘fun and whimsical’ approach to both life and work, the six-foot HB lamp is handmade with high quality materials that stay fairly true to the original wooden pencil’s material palette. A work of impeccable craftsmanship and ingenuity, HB lamp will soon scribble its debut at Tent London during this year’s London Design Festival . Inspired by the simple beauty of wall coverings and textiles, Fireclay Tile just launched new lines of contemporary, Moroccan and Mediterranean hand painted tiles that offer modern aesthetics, sophisticated textures, and pure finishes. Fireclay screens a pattern on the surface of its 70 percent recycled clay tiles using a proprietary wax resist technique, and then skilled artisans hand paint lead-free glazes. Their beautiful tiles are offered in 8”x8” and 6”x12” sizes – head over to their website to see them all! + Fireclay Tile The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. If you’ve ever had a surplus of produce from your garden and didn’t know what to do with it, or wished that someone nearby had some berries you could trade your zucchini for, you’re in luck.  RipeNear.Me is a new website + app that allows people to sell or give away bumper crops of fruits and vegetables, making local food a global project. It has had a successful early life and now has 3,000 members, but it needs to grow: In June, RipeNear.Me began a crowdfunding campaign that will expand the site’s ability to bring fresh, local produce to everyone’s table. Sign up to start looking for fresh food near you or offering your own, and while you’re there, be sure to visit the crowdfunding page to see how your help can make this great site even better. + RipeNearMe + RipeNear Me Crowdfunding Campaign + RipeNearMe on Facebook The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader.
