Electric car startup Tesla debuted on the public markets this week, raised $226 million for the company, gave the future of green cars a boost , and saw its share leap over 40 percent on the first day of trading. The founder of solar thermal company eSolar, Asif Ansari, has launched a new company that is looking to sell solar thermal to the next billion. Called Suntrough, this month the startup, will build its first 5.5 MW solar thermal plant in India

About a decade ago Microsoft Chief Strategist and Chief Technology Officer Nathan Myhrvold left the software giant to found Intellectual Ventures, which has recently spun out nuclear power startup TerraPower. TerraPower has developed a nuclear reactor design that can use waste uranium as a fuel source.

The car sharing heavyweight Zipcar filed for an IPO this week , looking to raise $75 million. With a fleet of 7,000 vehicles, more than 400,000 members (who can rent the car by the hour or day), Zipcar relies on the web, software, data centers, GPS, mobile networks and other communication tools to provide mobility as a service. The founder of Match.com, and former owner of Sex.com, Gary Kremen, is now an investor in early stage greentech startups .
