Porsche doesn’t plan to let Tesla have all the fun. At the Geneva Motor Show , they just unveiled their Mission E Cross Turismo , an electric vehicle that could rival the Model X . All-wheel drive, off-road design, and a connected drone in the trunk target this Cross Utility Vehicle at explorers. Porsche describes the flashy car as a concept study; they said in their statement the road-ready vehicle “builds on the Mission E study Porsche demonstrated at the 2015 International Motor Show and uses elements that are close to series production.” The four-seater Mission E Cross Turismo “presents a picture as to what a Turismo model with features of a crossover utility vehicle could look like in series production,” according to Porsche. Mostly, it’s speedy: the vehicle accelerates to around 62 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds, or to 125 miles per hour in less than 12 seconds. The car’s range is around 310 miles, according to Porsche. Two electric motors boast a system output of greater than 600 horsepower or 440 kilowatts, and the “800-volt architecture of the vehicle ensures that the lithium-ion battery can be charged for a range of around 250 miles in just over 15 minutes.” Drivers would have options for charging the vehicle: fast chargers , a home energy storage system, or via induction. Related: Porsche’s new EV chargers top up Mission E batteries by 80% in 15 minutes The car is completely decked out with smart features. An app would enable users to choose lighting, music, air conditioning settings, and navigation even when they’re not inside. The driver display includes eye-tracking control, and a rear view mirror camera detects the instrument a driver is viewing so that display can be brought to the foreground as others appear smaller. The passenger display also includes eye-tracking and touchscreen technology, allowing them to control features like navigation, media, and air conditioning. Don’t forget the trunk drone. The video shows the driver pressing a screen to release the drone to capture images of the drive. Will the car ever be manufactured for purchase? That remains to be seen. Will the #MissonECrossTurismo become a series-production model? #Porsche Chief Designer Michael Mauer: "I would like to see that happen!" What do you think? #PorscheGIMS — Porsche Newsroom (@PorscheNewsroom) March 6, 2018 + Porsche + Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Via The Verge Images via Porsche

Comments Off on Rimac creates an electric supercar with almost 2,000 horsepower!

The name Rimac may not be that familiar to you, but that could soon change with the Crotian automaker’s debut of the supercar of all supercars. Unveiled with significant fanfare at the Geneva Motor Show , the Rimac C_Two comes with almost 2,000 horsepower on tap and a suite of other impressive features; it’s basically what all electric carmakers should aspire to create. The Rimac C_Two has four electric motors , two in the front and two in the back that generate a combined 1,914 horsepower and 1,696 lb-ft. of torque. With that much power at your disposal, you’ll reach 60 mph in only 1.85 seconds and a top speed of 258 mph. The C_Two doesn’t just impress with the amount of power it has on tap, since it can also travel up to 404 miles on the NEDC cycle, thanks to its 120-kWh battery pack. Hook it up to a 250-kW fast charger and you’ll be able to charge it up to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. Related: Tesla-powered 1981 Honda Accord accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds Rimac is also looking to the future, since the C_Two will be capable of Level 4 autonomous driving, and it’s packed with the latest autonomous driving tech, including eight cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and lidar sensors. Even with all that power, Rimac describes the C_Two as a grand tourer. Open the butterfly doors and you’re greeted with a luxurious interior with three digital screens to provide all the information you need or want. There’s room for two and unlike most supercars, there’s even room for your gear. Rimac hasn’t announced the pricing for the C_Two, but only 150 units will be built. +Rimac Images @Rimac

With a driving range of 413 miles, Volkswagen’s latest concept sedan aims to beat the Tesla Model S at its own game. Volkswagen has released teaser photos of its new I.D. Vizzion concept, and it features a fully-autonomous system that lets passengers sit back and let the car do the driving. The I.D. Vizzion concept is the latest from the family of I.D. electric cars that VW has released, which started with the I.D. hatchback in late 2016. While the previous I.D. concepts have been previews of VW’s future electric models, the I.D. Vizzion takes it a step further by being the first to feature fully autonomous technology, which VW is going to debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show . Related: Volkswagen may offer more electric cars than any other brand Inside the I.D. Vizzion doesn’t have a steering wheel or pedals. Instead a “digital chauffer” is responsible for piloting the vehicle. The concept car drives, steers and navigates autonomously in traffic, while the passengers are given the freedom to do other tasks. The I.D. Vizzion concept also features a virtual host, which the passengers can interact with via voice or gesture controls. The system also automatically knows the personal preferences of the passengers. The I.D. Vizzion concept is the largest of all the I.D. concepts and previews a premium electric sedan. The concept is powered by two electric motors that generate a combined 302 horsepower that’s sent to all four wheels. A 111 kWh lithium-ion battery gives the concept a driving range up to 413 miles. VW has yet to announce when the production version of the I.D. Vizzion concept will arrive, but the first I.D. model, the hatchback, will go on sale in 2020. The electric hatchback will then be followed by the I.D. Crozz electric SUV and then the microbus-inspired I.D. Buzz . By 2025 VW plans to introduce more than 20 electric vehicles. +Volkswagen All images © Volkswagen

Earlier this month, the  Innovative Mobility Automobile GmbH  unveiled a tiny one-seat electric vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show called the Colibri . The car is so small that two of them can occupy a single parking space, making it an ideal option for dense urban areas. The Colibri has a battery range of about 69 miles, recharges in just two hours, and with its single person-capacity, the car may well be a good candidate for car-sharing programs.
