Tesla has announced the recall of 2,700 Model X crossover vehicles in order to fix an issue with the third row seat, which can fold forward and unlatch itself during an accident. Tesla discovered the issue during internal testing and thankfully it hasn’t received any reports of injuries or accidents due to the faulty rear seats. Last year , Google.org announced their Google Impact Challenge: Disabilities competition, and over 1,000 nonprofits from 88 countries submitted designs for open source technology that could improve the lives of disabled people around the world. This week, Google.org announced the 29 winners , to whom they have dished out a cool $20 million. Climate scientists are beside themselves this month as record-breaking ice melt in Greenland devastates the nation’s ice sheet. New measurements from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) estimate there is melting over 12 percent of Greenland ’s ice sheet. That amount is considerably higher than previous records, and the melt is occurring much earlier this year than normal, leaving scientists with lots of concerns about the future. Teaming up with Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, the famous astrophysicist announced the official launch of Starshot today, a space exploration initiative centered around a postage-stamp sized satellite called StarChip designed to ‘listen’ for alien life. The effort seeks to send these tiny satellites all the way to Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to the Solar System – a mere 4.3 light years away from Earth.
