Architect  Manthey Kula is exploring seaweed as an innovative way to create natural thermal insulation. One of five Challenger projects showcased during 2011′s Norwegian Architecture Festival , Kula’s work explores the idea that these materials are natural renewable resources that could be turned into  sustainable building materials while at the same time encouraging local industries which grow, harvest and dry seaweed and kelp for production. Supported by  SINTEF , Kula’s investigation is ongoing and will be testing the material properties and methods of drying seaweed sustainably. + Manthey Kula Images by C.
