NYC-based tech startup Volta Group has just installed its first EnGo public charging station that powers mobile devices with a clean energy combo of kinetic tiles and solar panels . Students at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri can now recharge up to 14 portable devices (10 cables, two USB ports and two wireless charging pads) from the sun and their footsteps as electricity is generated every time someone walks across the kinetic energy tiles. The stations also include free Wi-Fi and an emergency intercom. Keeping our national parks beautiful should be a nation-wide effort, and the Grand Canyon National Park is hoping to take a step in the new year that would make that easier for everyone by  banning the sale of plastic bottles within the park’s borders. The park has had a plastic bottle ban on its radar for a while now and is currently looking into the feasibility of placing public water refilling stations around the park to make sure visitors keep well hydrated. If the ban is approved and implemented the park would be following in the footsteps of Zion National Park in Utah and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – two parks that have already put plastic bottle bans in place. We’ve seen some pretty rad DIY gingerbread houses this holiday season — from brownstones to geodesic domes to alpine cabins — but if you’re a Harry Potter fan, we’ve just found the edible house for you. DIYer Mezcraft just posted photos of her gingerbread rendition of the Weasley’s teetering abode from the Harry Potter series, complete with monogrammed sweaters hanging on the line.
