Do you love shimmery lip gloss, eye shadow, nail polish? That extra sparkle comes from a mineral called mica, a glittery silicate mineral that’s used in many different types of cosmetics. While the shimmer is festive, there’s nothing fun or exciting about where it comes from. Much of the mica that ends up in cosmetics, among other products, like automotive paint, comes from eastern India where it’s mined by children and processed in illegal factories. An investigation shows how this sketchy industry takes its toll on the health and well being of kids who should never be in that type of danger.
