Japanese design studio Nendo recently unveiled the basket-lamp, a lighting fixture made from ‘kana-ami’, the cooking utensils used for traditional Kyoto dishes. Created in collaboration with Kanaami-Tsuji, a Kyoto-based manufacturer of the traditional wire nets, this new line of lamps celebrates Kyoto’s culture and traditional cuisine. Finished with powder paint, the wire netting casts beautiful woven pattern shadows onto the ceiling. + Justina The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. Design studio Foldability recently unveiled the Chloe Pendant, their newest line in origami lighting in honor of the John Lewis department store chain’s 150th anniversary. The exquisite hanging lamp is constructed from 70 origami paper squares, each folded and pieced together by hand for a wonderfully full and 3D effect. Rather than using traditionally delicate origami paper, the designers cut the squares out of specially prepared, translucent parchment paper produced by the Italian company Fedrigoni . + Foldability The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader.
