China is renowned for its soaring developments, and among the most fascinating is the Tianjin Ecocity , an urban regeneration which is rising from a reclaimed salt pan and once heavily polluted area of Bohai Bay. The Ecocity’s cultural district is soon to see its first structure, a pair of museums designed by celebrated studio Steven Holl Architects . The green-roofed Tianjin Ecocity Ecology and Planning Museum looks set to complement the surrounding site while providing a center for living exhibits and ecological education. The DOE and NREL Team Up on 3 Projects to Improve Battery Life for Electric Vehicles

Photo via Shutterstock Regardless of how you generate the electricity you need to power your electric vehicle, the car needs an efficient and cost-effective way of storing the energy. The Department of Energy’s ( DOE ) National Renewable Energy Laboratory ( NREL ) has joined partners to create the Advanced Management and Protection of Energy Storage Devices (AMPED). Announced this past week in San Francisco, the project will take place over the next three years and collaborate with teams from from Utah State University, Washington University, and the Eaton Corporation. Funded under the DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy ( ARPA-E ), the three initiatives will take advantage of $7.4 million to extend the range and life of lithion-ion batteries in electric and hybrid cars.
