The annual Paris Marathon took the term “energetic workout” to the next level this past weekend by harnessing kinetic energy from over 40,000 participating runners. Sponsored by Schneider Energy , the initiative covered part of the marathon course with energy-harvesting tiles that were activated as participants ran across them. Each runner’s step yielded 8 watts of energy, which was used to power electric signs and display screens throughout the marathon. Dutch design collective Droog broke some bad news at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair : around 500 dutch companies go bankrupt every month. The good news is Droog has saved 5139 of their products from liquidation sales to be used as raw material for new products. The exhibition showcased creative re-interpretations of found products by 14 designers from different parts of the world.

Image by Droog Designers everywhere are preparing for this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan, and so is Droog . The Dutch design company saved 5135 items from liquidation sales and other leftovers and invited 14 designers to create something new with these objects. The result: folding chairs manicured by nail artists, handkerchiefs that distribute selected daily news articles, spoons with non-edible yet mouth-watering coatings- all on sale at the Milan furniture fair next week!…
