In celebration of their 20th anniversary, EasyJet has teamed up with space-age couturier CuteCircuit to create a new line of “futuristic” airline uniforms. Studded with LEDs on the shoulders and hems, these shiny and sleek outfits combine fashionable design with functionality. The LEDs allow for hands-free illumination, while the reflective materials provide for extra visibility. Costasiella kuroshimae , known commonly as Leaf Sheep, is an ocean-dwelling grazer that “steals”  photosynthesizing chloroplasts from the food it eats in order to generate energy. The Leaf Sheep is a species of sea slug that munches on algae instead of grass, like the sheep you find on dry land. Off the coast of Sicily, researchers have discovered a giant stone monolith submerged in a shallow channel. A report published in Science Direct suggests the man-made object was created by an ancient civilization for a purpose likely akin to that of Stonehenge, which the monolith resembles. In celebration of Archtober happening next month in NYC, the Ford Motor Company and the American Institute of Architects New York (AIANY) chapter are teaming up to bring us a brand new live panel discussion focused on design that stands the test of time. ’ Design With a Purpose: Built Tough ‘ is the third in Ford’s illuminating webcast series  which has hosted talks between several of today’s leading architects and automotive designers. This month’s webcast will feature high-profile architects and builders from across New York, including Erik Churchill, project manager at SHoP Construction ; Frank J. Sciame Jr., Hon. AIANY Chapter and CEO/chairman of Sciame Construction Company ; Ford’s group vice president of design and chief creative officer  J Mays ; and moderator Rick Bell, FAIA, the executive director of the AIANY . This distinguished panel will discuss how designers can create strong, functional buildings that blend into their environment, yet are resilient enough to endure the passage of time, much like New York City ‘s famous skyscrapers.
