Hot sun / Shutterstock Historically, the UK has seen only a fraction of heat-related deaths compared to the number of cold-related deaths. But this is all about to change due to climate change. A new study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health by Public Health England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine shows that deaths resulting from hot weather are expected to soar over the next four decades and that the number of annual deaths in the UK related to heat will rise by 257 percent by 2050 and 535 percent by 2080.
