We’ve all been there. You’re standing in front of the recycling bin with something in your hand — perhaps a beverage cap, crinkly cellophane wrapping, the tinfoil lid from a sour cream container or a pizza box. You’re not entirely…

Tired of trying to force your kids to eat their vegetables when they’d rather be scarfing down ice cream? A new product line from Häagen-Dazs  attempts to combine the two for a healthier dessert option. The international ice cream maker recently announced the rollout of their “ Spoon Vege ” line in Japan. The first two flavors, Tomato Cherry and Carrot Orange, will be available in Japanese stores on May 12, 2014. Sounding more like fresh juice blends than ice cream flavors, it will be interesting to see how these so-called “healthy” treats are received by Japanese consumers. Keep reading to find out what makes the “Spoon Vege” line different from other Häagen-Dazs flavors. Vermont is leading the charge when it comes to state-wide GMO labeling after the state’s senate voted to approve mandatory labeling for foods containing genetically modified organisms. The bill must still be approved by the House, which needs to review amendments made to the bill that was originally passed by the House in 2013. If that goes according to plan, the bill could be on the governor’s desk this week and rolled out on food labels by July, 2016. As we shift away from fossil fuels, many utilities have focused on building the biggest and most powerful wind turbines possible to meet growing energy needs. Architect Renzo Piano has taken a different approach, however, focusing his efforts on a compact, yet super-efficient wind turbine that anyone can erect in their backyard. Called the “ Dragonfly Invisible Wind Turbine ” the two-blade design mimics the delicate dragonfly’s ability to float on the slightest of breezes. Based on the physics of dragonfly flight, Piano’s mini-turbine can harvest energy from winds that blow as slow as four miles an hour. Image via Shutterstock It seems like every other day, a new report gets shunted about online that lists all the horrible, harmful effects that ingredients in daily personal care products can wreak on our health. Parabens and phthalates are showing up in breast milk and body tissues; synthetic preservatives are polluting waterways… Just about everywhere we turn, the bad news bears peer around corners, admonishing us for the toxins we slather ourselves in. There is a way to absolutely ensure that the products we use are gentle on both our bodies and our environment, and that is to make our own. Although there are 50 massive wildfires raging in the US right now, the so-called Rim Fire in California is perhaps of greatest concern. Yesterday the fire nearly quadrupled in size and has only been contained 1-percent by firefighters. But worst of all, the fire has reached the border of the stunning Yosemite park, prompting evacuations of homes and recreational areas from the ecologically sensitive region. A leaked draft of the  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ‘s next big climate report finds near unanimous certainty that greenhouse gas emissions from humans are primarily responsible for global warming. While their finding should surprise absolutely nobody, the 95 percent figure is, in fact, five percent higher than the one reached in the IPCC’s 2007 report. The United Nations panel also concludes that if emissions continue unabated, sea levels could rise by more than three feet by the end of the century, threatening major cities such as New York, Miami, London, Shanghai and Sidney.
