Bubbles are bad – how can we forget the internet bubble of the 90s or the recent subprime mortgage crisis ? Now it seems that we have gotten ourselves into a new bubble – and the consequences of ignoring it could be disastrous for the planet. A recent report by the  Carbon Tracker Initiative shows that companies invested 674 billion dollars last year in developing nonrenewable energy assets globally. Recently, states such as New York, Montana, North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri have passed  laws that seek to outlaw or limit undercover farm investigations that have been dubbed “ ag-gag bills ” by activists. But there are still many people who refuse to remain silent in the face of animal and human abuse. The Food Integrity Campagin and The Government Accountability Project have this week published a pair of affidavits from USDA inspectors reporting the unsafe use of chemicals in poultry processing plants and their effects on worker safety. The Archangel Tree Project Plants its First Cloned Redwoods in Seven Countries

Photo via Shutterstock Back in January we covered the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive , a project dedicated to preserving the world’s old-growth trees by cloning them. This week, in celebration of Earth Day, the project released its archive to the world and began planting cloned trees in seven different countries – including the US. Both Oregon and California received new redwoods that may bring as much awe and wonder to new generations as the Giant Redwoods do today. The Solar Impulse just completed its final test flight before it travels across the U.S. without using a single drop of fuel. The plane spent most of yesterday cruising around 3,500 feet over the San Francisco Bay, giving many people a chance to see the giant solar aircraft in action. The “ Cross America 2013 ” tour is scheduled to kick off next Wednesday, May 1st, when Solar Impulse co-founder and pilot Bertrand Piccard embarks upon the first leg of the journey from San Francisco to New York.
