Tesla is looking for ways to secure its foothold in the Chinese auto market . Specifically, the California-based electric car maker wants to start building cars in the country that has the largest auto sales market in the world. Given that electric vehicles are in high demand in China, this seems like a natural move, but CEO Elon Musk admits there are a number of challenges to overcome before a China-based Tesla factory could become a reality. Coastal Sonoma County in California was once settled by the Native American Kashia band of the Pomo tribe, yet they haven’t been able to call it home for 200 years. That is, until now . The current owner of the property near Stewart’s Point has entered an agreement to sell the 700-acre, mile-long stretch of coast back to the Kashia, with the help of $2 million pledged by county leaders and a variety of coalitions, including the Trust For Public Land . Hong Kong is laying the foundations for a zero-emissions city with a brand new fleet of 45 bright red electric taxis. Manufactured by China’s BYD , which is partially backed by Warren Buffet, each five door BYDe6 crossover sedan is powered by an iron phosphate battery that charges in two hours and has a modest 180 mile range. Hong Kong Taxi and Public Light Bus Association Limited are renting the fleet as part of a six month trial period that some say will earn taxi drivers a better wage and local government officials hail the move as the right step towards a cleaner urban environment.
