Earlier this week Motor Trend named the 2017 Chevy Bolt electric car as its 2017 Car of the Year and Car and Driver recently added it to its Top 10 list. Now the “electric car for the masses” has been named the Green Car of the Year, by the Green Car Journal at the Los Angeles Auto Show . Green Car Journal editors selected the 2017 Bolt for its 238 mile driving range, stylish design, pleasing driving dynamics, and welcome new technologies. The Bolt beat out other contenders like the BMW 330e iPerformance, Chrysler Pacifica, Kia Optima and Toyota Prius Prime. This is also the second year in the row that Chevy has won the award, since last year the second-generation Chevy Volt won the coveted award. “The 2017 Bolt EV is a game-changing electric vehicle that delivers long range at an affordable price,” said Steve Majoros, Marketing Director, Chevrolet Cars & Crossovers. “We’re excited to have the Bolt EV arrive to select dealer showrooms later this year and honored to have it named as Green Car Journal’s Green Car of the Year®.” Related: 2017 Chevy Bolt gets an EPA-certified 238-mile driving range “From the time modern electric vehicles emerged in the 1990s, limited driving range has presented a core challenge to the commercialization of electric cars affordable to everyday drivers. Bolt overcomes this with its 238-mile battery electric driving range and approachable price, the first production electric car to achieve this milestone,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. The Bolt will start rolling into showrooms in all 50 states by the end of the year with a staring price at $37,500 before any state or federal tax incentives. + Green Car Journal All images @ Chevy

Elevated glass-bottomed pool gives thrill-seekers dramatic alpine views

The dramatic cantilevered pool is one of many additions in NOA’s renovation of Hotel Hubertus, completed May 2016. The new accommodation wing, which includes 16 new suites and facilities, is visually connected to the old accommodation wing by the pool, which sits between the two. The sky infinity pool appears to float weightlessly in the landscape, hovering 12 meters above ground, and successfully passes on that gravity-defying feeling to swimmers thanks to a glazed front, a glass window at the bottom of the pool, and no view-obstructing barriers. The pool has a width of 5 meters, a length of 25 meters, and a depth of 1.3 meters. A 17-meter length of the pool juts out from the front of the hotel to overlook spectacular views of the Dolomites . Trunks of native larch trees stripped of bark support the pool. “The new pool , which imposingly rests in-between the two accommodation wings, seems like a floating rock, come to rest at the site, overlooking the valley,” write the architects. “The hidden edges of the pool, kept in anthracite-coloured stone, abolish the gap between pool and landscape, creating the impression of the water flowing into nothing, disappearing between pool and landscape. The pool metaphorically reminds of a mountain lake, nestled into the astonishing mountainscape of the UNESCO World Heritage site , the Dolomites…” Related: Glass-bottomed sky pool will be suspended 115 feet in the air To create a uniform appearance between the existing building and the new build, the architects added native larch tree trunks to the facade. The debarked trunks were installed in a rhythmic, alternating pattern and double as sun screens , room dividers, and rain protectors. New perforated, powder-coated metal balustrades replaced the old wooden ones and enhance the wings’ curved forms shaped to follow the existing topography. + NOA Via Dezeen Images via NOA

Comments Off on 2017 Chevy Bolt gets an EPA-certified 238-mile driving range

When Chevy unveiled the “electric car for the masses” earlier this year – the 2017 Bolt EV – the automaker estimated it would have a driving range of around 200 miles. Now Chevy has announced the EPA has given the Bolt a driving range of 238 miles, which is longer than anything in its class and even manages to drive a bit further than the base Tesla Model S . With a 238-mile driving range, the Bolt EV also tops the upcoming Tesla Model 3 with its 215-mile-range, although Tesla may be able to squeeze out a few more miles before the Model 3 arrives late next year. The Bolt will also beat the Model 3, its closest competitor yet, to the market. In addition to the 238-mile range, Chevy has announced how efficient the Bolt is with a 128 MPGe city and 110 MPGe highway rating. A General Motors executive just confirmed that the automaker is working on an autonomous version of the upcoming Chevy Bolt EV . The self-driving Bolt will be the automaker’s first fully autonomous vehicle , and it will be available to Lyft drivers as part of the automaker’s $500 billion investment in the ride-sharing company. Pam Fletcher, executive chief engineer of autonomous tech at GM , recently revealed to Tech Insider that the autonomous Chevy Bolt will be here in the near future. “We have not made that announcement yet, but what I would say is this is all coming much faster than people anticipate, so I’ll say that much. We have been transparent about that,” Fletcher stated. Related: Chevy unveils first pre-production Bolt EV ahead of Tesla’s Model 3 debut While GM has yet to reveal an expected arrival date of the autonomous Chevy Bolt EV , prototypes of the self-driving Bolt are currently being driven around San Francisco by Cruise Automation – the self-driving car startup that GM bought earlier this year. It’s being reported that GM and Lyft could start testing autonomous vehicles on public roads by the end of the year. The 2017 Chevy Bolt with its 200-mile driving range is expected to enter production by the end of the year. “What I would say is this car is a big part of a transformation of transportation and mobility,” GM’s Pam Fletcher concluded about the future of the Chevy Bolt. + General Motors Via Tech Insider All images @ Cruise Automation and General Motors

Now, while building a visitor’s center dedicated to that discovery, construction workers have uncovered yet another impressive mosaic. Both mosaics were created almost 2,000 years ago to decorate a villa in an affluent Roman neighbourhood. Read the rest of Massive Roman mosaic discovered under city streets after hundreds of years
