https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL0aq05t7ds The controversial Dakota Access Pipeline is approximately 80 percent built—but it’s not too late to stop it from completion. Standing Rock Youth and their Rezpect our Water campaign have launched a petition to urge the Army Corps of Engineers to halt construction of the pipeline and they need your help! The pipeline, which would run from North Dakota to Illinois, poses huge threats to historic Standing Rock Sioux Tribe sites, their cultural heritage, and the environment. Help Standing Rock Youth by signing their Change.org petition .

Smithfield  is one of the biggest meat production companies in the world, and in the U.S. it feeds pigs, cattle and turkeys the growth-promoting drug ractopamine. However, ractopamine is not used in 160 other countries because of the risks it poses to public health and animal welfare as it unnaturally accelerates weight gain in animals raised for meat. Robyn O’Brien has begun a petition on Change.org requesting that Smithfield stop feeding ractopamine to animals intended for consumption in the U.S. Read on for details. Giraffes are in danger of extinction—help save them!

Giraffes may not be the first animals to come to mind when we think about endangered species, but it might not be long before these majestic creatures disappear from the face of the earth. Thanks to a combination of poaching and habitat loss, giraffe populations have dwindled by nearly 50 percent over the last 10 years, and even the newly defined species may face extinction. The good news is that we can help : there are many organizations dedicated to protecting and saving these gentle, graceful animals, who are loving parents and form strong family bonds; they’ve even been known to kill lions in defense of their calves! They also like to play tag with ostriches, as the baby giraffe in the video demonstrates. The city of Dyersburg, Tennessee is gaining national attention after making a brash and merciless decision to sentence a dog to death. The two-and-a-half-year-old Golden Retriever and White German Shepard mix named Beau was caught by animal control officials after he killed a neighbor’s duck, which wandered onto his own property. Though Beau has no previous history of aggression, the city seems to be taking unnecessarily cruel measures to reprimand the pup for an isolated incident. Beau’s owner, Danny Higgins, is now fighting back with the rest of the country to circumvent his dog’s heart-wrenching fate by petitioning Dyersburg to free poor Beau before he is euthanized on November 20, 2014. The petition on Change.org has gained over 300,000 signatures, but over 180,000 are still needed.
