A black labrador named Bazz has joined the global ranks of beekeepers who are fighting to save the world’s pollinators – and he even has an adorable custom suit to protect him on the job. Like Boneco the donkey in Brazil, Bazz does important but dangerous work: his owner, Josh Kennett from Australia, trained him to sniff out American foulbrood disease, an incurable disease that can decimate bee populations if it isn’t detected early. Fukushima has become synonymous with the nuclear disaster resulting from the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in 2011. But the coastal prefecture may turn that reputation around and become known as home to the world’s largest offshore wind farm instead. Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry commissioned an enormous floating wind farm project in an effort to move away from nuclear energy – and the first floating turbine was just installed off the coast of Fukushima. Just five years ago, the Iberian lynx was classified as critically endangered on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List (IUCN), but now the population in southern Spain has nearly tripled thanks to a particularly well-designed conservation program . Funded by the Andalusian government and the European Union, the program brought together hunters, farmers and the tourism industry to revive this magnificent wild cat.
