The shape-shifting Roadless Wheel is a one-size-fits-all solution for different vehicle types and road conditions in rural Africa. Student of Innovation Design Engineering at London’s RCA, Ackeem Ngwenya used the principle of a scissor jack to make the wheel grow shorter and wider, or taller and narrow, to adjust to rough roads in areas with no infrastructure. A booming new industry for farming millions of the creepy crawlies has emerged. Once they reach a certain level of maturity, the cockroaches are crushed into pills that believers consume like a daily vitamin. Native Chinese people, particularly in the country’s northern regions, have eaten cockroaches for centuries, so there is virtually no social stigma associated with popping roach pills – and the business of raising them comes with a substantial payback. This month’s webcast will feature high-profile architects and builders from across New York, including Erik Churchill, project manager at SHoP Construction ; Frank J. Sciame Jr., Hon. AIANY Chapter and CEO/chairman of Sciame Construction Company ; Ford’s group vice president of design and chief creative officer  J Mays ; and moderator Rick Bell, FAIA, the executive director of the AIANY .
