A little over a year ago, Alex wrote about David Breashears’ Rivers of Ice project, which documents how glaciers are receding. The BBC has a very cool slideshow that gives you a narrated tour of various glaciers and how they have evolved (devolved?) over the past decades. It looks great, and shows a large-scale effect of global warming. Kudos to David Breashears and his team! Vi… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Don’t Blink or You’ll Miss It! Google has created a series of video ads called ” Search Stories “. They’re basically short vignettes showing some cool projects that were made possible by people finding the right information (using Google, of course). The latest of those is about David Strenski from Michigan and his very cool project: Solar Ypsi . Trivia: TreeHugger.com makes an appearance in this ad, but it’s kind of a Where’s Waldo thing; you have to really look for it, and if you blink it’ll be gone… Via

Moving 1.7 People Every Single Day ! This is how bus rapid transit (BRT) should be! TransMilenio’s 104 stations allow the citizens of Bogota (in Colombia) to get to work, move around the city, run errands… All of that very conveniently and quickly – thanks to reserved bus lanes – while harming the environment as little as possible. BRT is cheaper and more flexible than both underground subways and above-ground light rail, and it can be made quite green if you run the busses on biogas CNG or biodiesel (both fuel types can be combined with hybrid drivet… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Comments Off on How Public Opinion Drives Deep Green Trends in Germany

Germans reacted to the nuclear crisis in Japan by calling for a phasing out of all its nuclear power plants. They then reacted to the need to meet a newly minted energy demand by calling for more renewable energy. Public attitudes to green growth is so strong that major companies are being persuaded to vault past the nation’s already-ambitious clean energy gas — because “it’s what consumers want”. The New York Times has the story …. Read the full story on TreeHugger

Image: Screen Grab via Fox Well here’s an interesting little catch, courtesy of Media Matters (whose unenviable job it is, evidently, to watch Fox News 24/7). In this segment on ‘Fox and Friends’, the hosts team up to bash Jon Huntsman. He’s behind in the polls, and has been publicly criticizing his rivals for their extreme views, especially on science . But the interesting part comes around two and a half minutes in — when the hosts say their fact-checkers have looked… Read the full story on TreeHugger
