Today the US Justice Department filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and five major book publishers over the pricing of eBooks. The Justice Department claims that Apple and the other publishers named in the suit colluded to fix eBook prices, causing “e-book consumers to pay tens of millions of dollars more for e-books than they otherwise would have paid.” The book publishers teamed up with Apple in an effort to topple Amazon’s $9.99 Kindle ebook, and now they’re all in big trouble. Beautiful KOKi Beach in Costa Rica Embraces the Environment With a Sustainable Spirit

Comments Off on Beautiful KOKi Beach in Costa Rica Embraces the Environment With a Sustainable Spirit

Capturing the essence of Costa Rica and its sustainable spirit, KOKi Beach embraces the environment and community in which it rests through a wide range of eco practices. Working principally with local materials, artisans and by incorporating mostly reused, reclaimed and repurposed elements, they created a unique haven for locals and visitors to enjoy. Local river stones were used for the building support as well as the bar’s back bar wall, while the lamps are a combination of carvings by the local indigenous community in Bribri and a local artisan who specializes in beadwork. Even wood from an abandoned house in Hone Creek now serves as tables and seating for the restaurant, as well as a decorative entry feature. KOKi Beach is a showcase of local craftsmanship, and exemplifies how using the knowledge and traditions of the community can create a modern and environmentally friendly space. + KOKi Beach The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. Click here to view the embedded video. Oh the talking heads of the political world — what would we do without them? The latest wonderful blunder has come from one of our favorites, Mr. Bill O’Reilly. In the midst of the fist fight that has become of the Republican presidential race, the entire right-wing of American politicans have joined together to turn their wrath on the gas-saving, American-made Chevy Volt . O’Reilly is now jumping in the ring and is bad-mouthing the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle on his Fox News talk show. But a funny thing happened on the way to the Volt-bashing parade – Media Matters dug up some fun footage of the O’Reilly Factor showing the King of Fox News supporting not only the Chevy Volt, but government subsidies for GM and other car companies building alternative fuel vehicles. It seems that Bill’s got a short term memory and a pension for following the crowd — even if it means being a documented hypocrite. Bottled water is drying up on college campuses, thanks to a growing movement led by student activists to ban its sale on school grounds. In their place, schools are handing out reusable bottles to incoming freshmen at orientation and installing hydration stations that serve up free filtered water. Bloomberg News reports that more than 90 colleges and universities, headlined by Harvard and Brown, have already banned the sale of or restricted the use of bottled water on campus.
