Last week Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the automaker will deliver 100,000 electric vehicles in 2015. The news sent Tesla’s stock up five percent the morning after Musk released the statement. Investors were happy about the news, since the 100,000 vehicle production estimate is a big jump up from the 22,000 vehicles Tesla produced in 2013 and the 35,000 that is projected for this year. It’s the height of the summer harvest season here in the northern hemisphere, and the southern one will see a huge influx of berries and early spring fruits in the very near future, all of which can be enjoyed in the moment and preserved for later. Produce never tastes as good as when it’s naturally in season (and local!), and the fruits or vegetables we preserve at this time of year will taste so much better than the pallid, imported offerings we’ll find at the supermarket over the winter. Juices are summery delights that are incredibly easy to preserve, as they only require a water bath instead of a pressure-canner, so grab some local produce and get canning! A new law will require all published content in the country, in all formats and media, to be deposited in the library to be scanned and made searchable online. American-Icelandic company Reykjavik Geothermal just invested $4 billion towards a massive new geothermal farm 124 miles south of the Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. The deal signed on Wednesday secures three-quarters of the funding necessary to build the 1000 MW geothermal project, which is the first of its kind in the country, and paves the way to a cleaner energy future for one of Africa’s most populated countries. Ikea has long been recognized for its adoption of sustainable practices, from investment in renewable energy to their participation in the American Forests plant-a-tree program , and today the company has unveiled what might be its most ambitious initiative to date. The Swedish furniture manufacturer has stated that they plan to not only transition to 100% renewable energy sources by 2020, but will also plant more trees than they use in production. IKEA also aims to limit sales to energy-efficient products like LED bulbs , refrigerators and induction stoves.
