Last weekend, Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa gaveled home an agreement by over 190 countries which came together and demonstrated a renewed commitment to the fight against global warming. The battle to address global warming isn’t over, but these agreements provide a foundation from which to build further action.

I’ve tried but failed to read through the dry, legalistic 30-page Cancun Agreement , so instead I read through a good deal of commentary. My takeaway: It seems as if the world’s countries are, indeed, moving closer to setting frameworks, clearing the ground, laying foundations to deal with such key issues as deforestation, financial aid to poor countries and monitoring of global emissions
