The world’s largest telescope array officially opened Wednesday in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. The Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) consists of 66 huge antennas directed towards the night sky to gather data and images of neighboring stars and some of the most distant, ancient galaxies. Its telescopes will have better resolution than the famous Hubble Space Telescope , and they will allow astronomers to shed light on how stars are born and how they die. Designed to be plugged directly into a tree, this project explores the energy created when a tree “communicates” with its soil. By harvesting and storing this energy, Alma forgoes the need for a grid power source, lighting up the streets while highlighting the beauty of plant life. Infiniti just unveiled its new Infiniti LE electric sedan concept at the 2012 New York Auto Show , and Inhabitat was on the scene to get the scoop on this gorgeous new electric vehicle. The Infiniti LE borrows styling elements from previous Infiniti concepts, but this time the overall design of the concept is closer to a model that can actually be produced – according to Infiniti it’s about 85 percent accurate to the production model. We were especially excited to find out that the car will use the world’s first home wireless charging system , and it will have an estimated 100-mile range.
