In celebration of their 20th anniversary, EasyJet has teamed up with space-age couturier CuteCircuit to create a new line of “futuristic” airline uniforms. Studded with LEDs on the shoulders and hems, these shiny and sleek outfits combine fashionable design with functionality. The LEDs allow for hands-free illumination, while the reflective materials provide for extra visibility. We recycle our bottles, cans, and newspapers, but what about clothes that are past their prime? Last year, Swedish apparel chain H&M made headlines by launching the world’s first global clothes recycling program . Now, the fruits of that labor are making their way to market. On the one year anniversary of its recycling program announcement, H&M will reveal a new line of denim products made with recycled program derived from repurposed clothing. Proceeds from sales of the recycled denim garments will benefit the H&M Conscious Foundation, where the money will be used to fund projects designed to close the loop on textiles. These beautiful pieces of wooden furniture handcrafted by Scot Laughton are simple prototypes designed to be made locally by villagers in rural areas of China. Commissioned by the Luke Him Sau Charitable Trust for ‘The House for All Seasons’ , the collection includes a chair, a stool, a bench, a dining table, a low table and a sofa. The overall objective is to use architecture and design to improve the lives of the rural population, and Laughton’s project is geared specifically towards sustainable design. A petition was launched at Change.org is demanding that LEGO to stop selling out girls with the new collection, arguing that the new line of toys feeds young girls a narrow set of stereotypes.
