Crowds will gather around 13-year-old Guled Adan Abdi just to watch him work. The Somalian teen from the northern town of Buhodle has made a name for himself by turning discarded junk into moving plastic toys. Thus far he’s constructed four electronic toys from old cooking containers, an impressive self-taught feat that the Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has caught wind of and, was so impressed by he promised free education to Guled. The eco-friendly city of Portland, Oregon will soon be adding electric cars to its fleet of taxis. Luxury eco-touring company Tesla Trips  was recently granted a livery license, and the company will soon begin offering rides in Tesla Model S sedans. Tesla Trips has already made a name for itself in Portland tourism, offering guided luxury tours of the Oregon countryside for wine and beer excursions. The company recently decided to branch out into the commuter realm, applying for their livery license to extend its services to local trips. So big that the country has to export rubbish to other nations in order to control the incredible volume of stuff tossed away each year. Now, the conundrum of what to do with recyclable material is about to become more difficult. China’s “Green Fence Initiative,” which was launched in February of this year, bans bales of plastic that have not been properly washed or sorted. Since this type of plastic tends to be harder to recycle, it ends up in China’s landfills and fuels social unrest in the south of the country. According to Quartz , 68,000 tons of material have been rejected in the first five months of its implementation.
