3D printing is music to our ears! Believe it or not,  this futuristic-looking violin was made with a 3D printer . The two-string piezroelectric violin will debut at the 3D Print Design Show later this month in New York. Architects Eric Goldemberg and Veronica Zalcberg of MONAD Studio collaborated with musician Scott F. Hall to design the instrument. The violin is similar in function and ergonomics to a classical violin but is different in aesthetics and the overall character of the instrument. Four other instruments will also be displayed, and then played, at the design show throughout the week: a didgeridoo, a cello, a monobarisitar and a hornucopia (a large didgeridoo). Goldemberg said it was important that they pay homage to the history of the instruments while still looking boldly into the future of music and design . Inspired by the mud dauber , a little wasp  that  builds its home with mud, Massimo Moretti worked with bio-architecture to put the two together to create something remarkable. Concerned about the housing crisis throughout the world, he set about to use 3D printing technology to squirt out mud houses. Traditionally, earthen houses are formed by hand in a laborious, tedious process. But with a 3D mud printer , a house can be made in a couple of weeks. His organization, World’s Advanced Saving Project (WASP), is dedicated to making housing affordable, particularly in places where the most abundant resource may be earth.
