The world remains perplexed by the mysterious and dramatic decline in our wild bee populations , but that hasn’t stopped designers like Dutch artist AnneMarie van Splunter from trying to help out. In a bid to raise awareness about the problem and boost the pollinator populations, Van Splunter has designed Buzzbench , a sculptural bee habitat that doubles as an urban bench. Made from digitally cut local bamboo and reed, the Buzzbench serves as a public space that surrounds users in a sensory experience, from the humming sounds of bees to the changing patterns of light filtering through the layered walls. Van Splunter is currently seeking crowdfunding support on the Voordekunst platform. If successful, the Buzzbench will be built in Amstelpark, Amsterdam. + Buzzbench Voordekunst The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. Want to see your story on Inhabitat ?
