New York Proposes Ban on Water-Polluting Microbeads Found in Beauty Products

While they might give you a glowing complexion, the tiny microbeads found in your face and body washes pose a big threat to waterways and aquatic life. In order to prevent the small but harmful beads from wreaking havoc when they enter waterways, New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the Microbead-Free Waters Act last week. If passed, the legislation would ban the manufacturing, distribution and sale of personal care products with plastic particles that are less than 5mm in size.
