Designer  Wei-Chih Hsu ‘s build-it-yourself D-Bike is a flat-pack, cardboard kid’s bicycle that is assembled much like a jigsaw. All of the bike’s components are punched out from a pre-cut, reinforced honeycomb cardboard sheet, and then simply fixed into their correct spots to create a sweet new two-wheeler for a tot! The D-Bike is a 2012 Red Dot Design award winner. + Wei-Chih Hsu  Via Damn Geeky The article above was submitted to us by an Inhabitat reader. Hoping to make some big noise for a little car, Mini Cooper tapped artist Bartek Elsner to design and construct a giant boombox made of cardboard. Debuting at the International Radio Festiva l in Zürich, the massive structure acted as a shell for the car, which could be seen through a open space in the back of the blaster. Made primarily to showcase the car’s sound system, the vehicle’s speakers pumped noise to passing crowds through its elaborate retro costume. Photo via Shutterstock This morning, officials announced that New Jersey’s Oyster Creek nuclear plant is no longer on alert . The alert was brought on by quickly rising water levels , which posed a danger to the plant’s cooling equipment. Oyster Creek wasn’t the only nuclear plant to be affected by Hurricane Sandy ; three other rectors in New Jersey and Upstate New York were also forced offline by the storm. Even though those facilities dodged the bullet this time, it brings to light just how vulnerable the nation’s nuclear energy facilities are to extreme weather events.
